Become introduced to some exciting and innovative ways you can serve your G/T students in a traditional classroom. Not only will you learn the concepts and theory for serving gifted students, but you will also discover specific resources, project ideas, and activities that you can begin using in your classroom right away.
In this course you will learn:
- The importance of pre-assessing students before accelerating them
- How to take a literature circle experience and make it meaningful
- The benefits of teaching Bloom’s Taxonomy in literature
- Ways in which depth and complexity can be developed in book studies
- The importance of “non-standard problem solving” for gifted students
Daniel Brillhart is a Talented and Gifted (TAG) teacher at Gattis Elementary School in Round Rock, TX. Brillhart earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science in Technology Education and Cognitive Systems from the University of North Texas in Denton. His teaching experience includes high school government, 6th grade, 4th grade, and he has spent the last eight years teaching TAG. He has won numerous awards including, Teacher of the Year for Govalle Elementary in 1999-2000, Teacher of the Year for Gattis Elementary in 2005-2006, Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year 2007, TAG Teacher of the Year for Region XIII in 2009-2010.
Nicole Shannon has over 18 years of experience in gifted education. She currently serves as the Coordinator of Gifted/Advanced Academic Services for Round Rock ISD and taught in the district for 10 years before taking the position. Previously, Shannon has served as a teacher, curriculum coordinator, and school principal at private schools in Hawaii, California and Virginia. She has presented to pre-service and in-service teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents on a variety of topics in gifted education. Shannon received her Bachelors of Science degree in ALD from the University of Texas at Austin. She is currently completing her M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership with a specialization in Gifted/Talented at Lamar University in Beaumont.
